Dan Wilhelms

Dan Wilhelms is President of TechRender LLC, headquartered in Milwaukee, WI. TechRender provides laser scanning and 3D digital building documentation services. Dan received his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the UWM School of Architecture and Urban Planning in 1981. His interest in computer graphics enabled him to be the 1st architectural student to use CAD in a design studio. His studies culminated in an undergraduate research project titled “The integration of CAD into the design process”. These experiences led him into a career in CAD/CAM industry, where he worked with cutting edge design and visualization technologies. While working at Sun Microsystems, Dan worked with early solid modeling and virtual reality software. Dan later founded Symmetry Corporation, an IT managed services firm specializing in managing large, mission critical database systems. As an active collaborator with UWM, Dan is promoting research into digital historic preservation and visualization technologies.
  • Virtual Reality in Architecture: Strategies for Visualization, Interaction, and Collaboration

    • 10:15 - 11:15 AM
    • Resch Breakout Rooms
    • Day 1 : Wednesday, April 26

Virtual reality is part of the greater world of extended reality. In architecture the use of Extended Reality (XR) empowers the visual communication, interactivity, and collaboration as fundamental bases for projects design, development, and construction. This seminary offers an overview of the XR potential for combining the real world and design data in the visualization processes, stimulation of perception and collaborative design, revealing how this is changing our present and impacting on the future of architecture. XR technology will be presented as an instrument for decision-making during the process of design, for presenting interactive reviews to clients, and for visualizing final projects presentation. This seminar is on collaboration of Dan Wilhelms by TechRender and Gabriela Bustos by Pluris XR and SARUP UWM.
