Virge Temme

Virge Temme, owner of Virge Temme Architecture and SAGE Homes, LLC, is a nationally recognized expert on high-performance homes. With over 30 years of experience in sustainable design, she has completed three LEED Platinum homes and over 15 net-zero-energy-ready buildings in Wisconsin. In 2017 she received the Women in Sustainability Leadership award from the U.S. Green Building County and Green Building and Design Magazine. She is co-author of LEED the Way, Domestic Architecture for the Future, and teaches classes on high-performance building design. She became a licensed Dwelling Contractor in 2016 and manages the construction of her high-performance building designs. She has been a member of the Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code Council since 2020.

    Rising energy costs and the increasing impact of climate change mandate that we significantly alter and improve the way we design and build. This session will illustrate how to design high performance, net-zero- energy buildings through LEED and Passive House strategies. We will also discuss the reasons why residential and commercial architects should become building contractors when creating high-performance projects.
